February 6, 2010 — A Very Big Day!

Spirit of BC - Pemberton Valley

Members of Pemberton encouraged to apply for chance to run with Olympic Flame

On February 6, 2010 at approximately 8 a.m. The 2010 Olympic Torch will make its way through Pemberton.

"Seeing and holding that magnificent Olympic Flame is a transformational and emotional experience," said John Furlong, VANOC’s Chief Executive Officer. "This is a very special opportunity for Canada’s communities from coast to coast to coast to participate in the Olympic Torch Relay so I encourage everyone to apply. The Olympic Flame truly symbolizes the best in all of us."

February 6th is Pemberton’s time to show the world our future athletes, and our community spirit.

We all have a flame burning inside of us, and The Games are a prime example of reaching goals, and caring for that flame.

As a community, we need to encourage Pembertonians to become torchbearers. The exhilaration, and memories created from that 300 meters will last a lifetime.

Time is running out to apply to become a torchbearer. Visit www.iCoke.ca or www.rbc.com/carrythetorch to apply.

Whether you are young, or young at heart; everyone should all have the opportunity to become a part of history.

Would you like to join the Torch Relay Committee?

Contact Michelle at mich.murray@live.com for the next meeting date!

Got spirit?

New T-Shirts are in to showcase our Pemberton spirit. For only $20 you can join the “Spirit Revolution” Contact mich.murray@live.com to purchase a funky and limited Spirit of BC — Pemberton Valley t-shirt. T-Shirts will also be available at the Visitors Centre.

The Nominees are In!

The Spirit of BC Committee along with members of the Torch Committee have nominated three incredibly worthy Pembertonians to carry the Torch and represent Pemberton. These individuals are:

  • Heather Kelly
  • Paul Selina
  • Jim McDonald

Each nominee shows the true spirit of the Olympic flame. And we are honoured to share their spirit with the world.

What Are Your Employees’ Commuter Needs in 2010?

Pemberton transportation

The Whistler Chamber of Commerce (WCC) is working closely with the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW), VANOC and other Resort partners and its membership to ensure that Whistler businesses successfully realize the opportunities that the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games offer.

A survey has been developed to collect information on your employees’ commuter needs during the period February 1-28, 2010. The survey results will allow BC Transit to develop the commuter bus schedules between Squamish–Whistler and Pemberton-Whistler during Games time.

You may not have finalized your employee and/or shift needs. However, we encourage you to provide us with your best estimate of those needs at this time so that planning can move forward.

To start the survey, click here. Please respond by May 29, 2009.
