ROCKY MOUNTAINEER PRESENTATION
Ian Robertson, Director of Sustainable Development for Rocky Mountaineer Vacations gave a presentation on May 19th on the
new routes planned and opportunities that could be available for Pemberton area businesses to benefit from. When asked
where the train would be serviced - no decision has been made at this point. Ian was given a tour of the trackage in Pemberton
and made aware of other businesses that could service the needs of the train. Supplies and services that will be required
are interior cleaning, exterior cleaning, carpet cleaning, fuel, septic service, security, watering, catering on board
meals, and newspapers. The value of these contracts is over $1 million. Opportunities exist in cleaning, food preparation,
fuel, water, as well as staffing. On the day trip from Vancouver to Whistler there is also the opportunity to capture some
of the visitors who may choose to extend their stay instead of a one day trip. Pemberton was encouraged to market the region
and the experiences. It is up to our community to give the tourists a reason why they should come to Pemberton.
