LONELY PLANET TRAVEL WRITER
John Lee, travel writer for the Lonely Planet BC Edition, was in Pemberton on September 1st where he was escorted by Shirley
Henry and presented with a folder of all the Chamber activities and accommodations. His tour, arranged by Vancouver Coast
& Mountains, included breakfast compliments of Big Sky Golf & Country Club, a glider flight courtesy of the Pemberton Soaring
Centre, visits to North Arm Farm, CNN Backpackers, Pemberton Museum, Farmhouse B & B and lunch courtesy of the Chamber
at the Pony Espresso.
VISITOR CENTRE CLOSES FOR THE SEASON
The Pemberton Visitor Centre had a very successful year with 20,639 visitors recorded at the centre. The number
of visitors was up this year from 18,054 in 2005. The centre opened on May 15 and closed on September 30, 2006.
Student summer staff performing duties as Visitor Information Counselors were - Melissa Yon, Rebecca Strobl & Laura Rolandi.
Financial assistance for the operation of the Visitor Information Centre was provided by Tourism BC, HRDC, Village of Pemberton,
SLRD and the Chamber.
CHAMBER ROTARY GOLF TOURNAMENT IS A SUCCESS
The first Annual Chamber/Rotary Golf Tournament was a huge success generating approximately $20,000 profit to be shared
with both organizations. Special thanks to the committee chaired by Brian Young of Pemberton Valley Golf & Country Club.
(Brian is both Rotary President & Chamber Director) This event would not have been possible without the generous support
of the many donations, sponsors and golfers. Thanks to everyone involved!!
BIG SKY DENTAL GRAND OPENING
To celebrate their first year in business in Pemberton, the Big Sky Dental Clinic is holding a Grand Opening Celebration
on Saturday, October 14th from 4-7 p.m. Those who are interested in attending please RSVP by October 9th -

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS SEMINAR FOR BUSINESS
Overview: Does your business have or will it have employees? If so, then you need to know about B.C. Employment
Standards Act and how it applies to your business.
Topics include:
- Basic standards and responsibilities.
- Employee or independent contractor?
- Managers.
- Wage rates, paying wages, wage statements, and record keeping.

- Hours of work and overtime rules.
- Time banks, averaging agreements.
- Statutory holidays, annual vacation pay.
- Other types of leaves from work, including pregnancy and parental leave.

This in-depth seminar will walk you through case scenarios, sample calculations, and provide an opportunity for discussion

PEMBERTON 2006 COMMUNITY SHOWCASE
This event is apart of a 2 day workshop funded by ArtsNows BC and Arts Build Communities initiative. Pemberton is one of
10 communities across the province to receive funding to host Public Dreams Society Artistic Director Dolly Hopkins for
workshops and presentation on hosting community celebrations. Friday , November 24 - 6-9 p.m. will feature presentation
on community festivals. Saturday, November 25 = 10-3 p.m. Dolly Hopkins will work with the Chamber of Commerce's Spirit
of BC Community Committee to help develop plans for the community celebration in the lead up to 2010. Signal Hill Elementary
School is the location and both days are FREE. For further information and to showcase your organizations events
