A news update from the Village of Pemberton.

---------------------

Village of PembertonThe Village of Pemberton is committed to assisting with the improvement of the functioning and aesthetics of the downtown core.

In 2009, based on a series of community workshops and questionnaires, the Village prepared the Downtown Enhancement Strategy which identified an overarching approach for improvements in the area (please let me know if you need a copy). The Strategy then recommended that the community further define certain works necessary to facilitate the enhancement of the public domain including designated parking areas, pedestrian right of ways, public open spaces and gathering areas as well as park improvements. The Village has also been exploring funding opportunities to help finance the required works which will then be incorporated into the implementation plan for the Downtown Enhancement Strategy.

As part of the program to enhance the opens spaces within the downtown, a consultant has been hired to assist in preparing the Frontier Street Master Plan. The lands bounded by Camus Street, the CN Rail line, Pioneer Park and Frontier Street have particular potential:  first, being a gateway to the downtown; and second that for the most part the lands are owned by the Village. The Frontier Street Master Plan directions are intended to be incorporated into the works and funding programs of the Downtown Enhancement Strategy.

The draft Frontier Master Plan was prepared from exercises undertaken with the community on July 14th and 15th. The draft is now being referred to residents, property owners and community organizations for further comment.

The Village would greatly appreciate it if you could complete the form and/or provide additional comments. The deadline for submissions is September 17, 2010. Please let us know if that deadline is not achievable. Hard copies are also available from the Development Services Department.
