Lil’wat Nation – Transition House Support Worker

Job Details:
The Transition House Support Worker is responsible to provide crisis intervention and emergency shelter services for First Nation community members.
Key Deliverables and Expectations:
• Refer clients to other social services or assist clients in locating and utilizing community resources including legal, medical and financial assistance, housing, employment, transportation, day care, schooling, counseling, etc
• Meet with clients to assess their progress, give support and discuss any difficulties or problems
• Maintain contact with other social service agencies and health care providers involved with clients to provide information and obtain feedback on clients’ overall progress
• Ability to deal effectively with conflict situations, mediate, manage aggressive behaviour and use non-violent crisis intervention and behavioural management techniques
• Maintain general upkeep of the building’s shared spaces.
• Assisting residents with services within the self-contained Transition Home (ex. Kitchen, laundry, etc)
• Tracking clients’ behavioural changes and responses to interventions through daily charting
• Transportation to and from appointments within and outside of the community
• Assist with intake process and reports for new residents
• Participate in the development and implementation of safety plans
• Act in the strictest confidential and professional manner at all times, including outside regular working hours
• Perform other related duties as requested. Experience and Attributes:
• Completion of a college or university program in social work, child and youth care, psychology or other social science or health-related discipline is an asset.
• Previous work experience in a social service environment as a volunteer or in a support capacity may replace formal education requirements
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in the English language • Ability to work independently and as an integral member of various teams
• Strong organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail and time management skills
•Ability to meet deadlines, prioritizes assignments, manage multiple tasks simultaneously and maintain confidentiality
• Must have a knowledge of Lil’wat Nation and surrounding First Nations communities and their respective culture and protocols
• Knowledge of systemic issues that may affect families facing domestic violence issues (ex. Lateral violence, trauma informed lens, etc)
• Experience with Microsoft Office programs an asset
• Current First Aid, Food Safe and WHMIS an asset
• Ability to maintain a flexible schedule, that allows for day, evening & overnight work ($3/hr night shift premium)
• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position, including lifting up to 50lbs
• Successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check
• Must possess a Valid Class 5 Driver’s license and a clean drivers abstract.
