Summary of Duties:
The Program Accountant supports key departments assigned, ensuring that all invoices (AP / AR) and cheque requisitions are recorded accurately and processed in a timely manner. This includes coding the expenses accurately within the scope of the budget, reviewing financial workbooks, General Ledger entries and general maintenance of key program accounts.
Key Deliverables and Expectations:
- Assist program directors and managers during the Annual budget process.
- Assist with the year-end working paper preparation.
- Coordinate with managers and respond to special reporting requests.
- Post adjustments in the General Ledger (GL).
- Prepare special reports and conduct analysis, as requested.
- Manage ACCPAC Daily Batch Reporting.
- Process Accounts Payable (AP) vouchering for all program-related invoices.
- Handle Accounts Receivable (AR) invoicing.
- Perform GL coding adjustments.
- Provide eRequester support to program managers.
- Offer financial policy training to program managers.
- Oversee contract administration.
- Prepare monthly variance reports.
- Manage miscellaneous billing tasks.
- Conduct monthly review meetings with program managers.
- Perform GL reconciliation, as assigned.
- Process monthly recurring entries and inter-departmental billing.
- Support quarterly forecasting for program managers, including direct involvement.
- Assist program managers with budget amendment proposals.
- Perform other related duties as requested.
Experience and Attributes:
- A minimum of two years of experience in full-cycle accounting.
- Completion of relevant finance courses or certification (e.g., Bookkeeping) is an asset.
- Must have high proficiency with Microsoft Office- Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Familiarity with Sage Accpac and eRequester is an asset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organization skills, time management and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be a team player and be able to work positively and supportively with the team and other departments.
- Strong analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Previous experience with First Nations communities is preferred.
- Must be able to provide a clear Criminal Record Check, including the vulnerable sector.
